The Leidseplein – here you can see it in year 1962 – is a square in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. Lying in the Weteringschans neighborhood (Centrum borough), the Leidseplein is immediately northeast of the Singelgracht canal. It is situated on the crossroads of the Weteringschans, the Marnixstraat, and the Leidsestraat. The Leidseplein is one of the busiest centres for nightlife in the city of Amsterdam. Historically, the square was the end of the road from Leiden, and served as a parking lot for horse-drawn traffic.
